2 fully funded PhD positions on mobility, accessibility and healthcare at the University of Twente

The University of Twente has two fully funded PhD positions. The positions are part of a research programme on the mobility and accessibility impacts of local and digital healthcare provision, funded by the Dutch National Science Foundation NWO. The transport and healthcare sectors are strongly connected, but researchers, planners and practitioners have so far hardly worked together. Our research project will involve collaboration between the University of Twente, Radboud University, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and 10 partners from the mobility and health domains, aiming to integrate travel avoidance strategies in the organization of healthcare.

The first PhD project, Integrated Mobility and Healthcare Capacity Planning, examines the implications of local and digital healthcare provision on health care operations. It involves the development of a planning support tool to examine integral healthcare capacity planning incorporating travel costs of patients, healthcare and home care workers.

The second PhD project is titled Physical and Digital Healthcare Accessibility. The research should give insight in the mobility, accessibility, and wellbeing impacts of combinations of physical access to healthcare facilities (including hospital and local healthcare provision) and digital access (e.g., telemonitoring of patients at home, e-health services). An exiting new research area, with a huge social impact potential.
